Call to Order
Introductions
James Helton, Danielle Kafina, Lisa Smith, Jordan Adam, James Helton, Megan Hartley, Joseph Harrison, Maria Grochowski
Good Things
Mrs. Hartley finished half of her essay yesterday. Hayes is going to a concert tonight with Mr. Helton. Ms. Adams is embroidering presents for people. Mrs. Kafina was able to see Cooper this weekend.
Old Business
- By-Laws
- What is School Improvement Council? A council made up of parents, educators, and community members who work together to support student success.
SIC Leadership
- Minimum of two elected parents-Introduce parents who were elected/nominated and have them share statements of “why”
- Minimum of two elected teachers
- Community members
25-26 Goals (review last year’s goals)
- To continue improving school culture and climate among teachers, students, parents and the community through Title One and the Parent Engagement Event throughout the school year promoting collaborative relationships.
- Mrs. G discussed how we can help bring in new business partners. There is a meeting today at 1 to work on a plan.
- To bridge the social and emotional transition gaps between elementary and middle school (5th to 6th) by implementing targeted programs and supports that promote readiness, confidence, and connection for all students.
- Our FERAPA teachers did a great job of going to the middle schools to promote their programs. Some of the classes have grown 100%.
- Mr. Harrison discussed how his son’s transition from elementary to middle has been very positive. He is thriving.
- Possibly bring back a student to talk to 8th grade students about moving to 9th grade.
New Business
- Discuss recruiting new members
- Mrs. Kafina will send out information about any more potential members.
- Discuss future tentative goals (in combination with completion of last year’s 2-year goals)
- Continue with the goals we had from last year.
- Working with Mrs. Grochowski to help get the first goal implemented. She already has a list of businesses and volunteers that want to serve our school.
- Set elections date for next SIC meeting October 27, 2026
- Discussed the possibility of having meetings in the morning and in the afternoons
- Parent Power Hour is currently happening at a feeder elementary school. This idea could be something we implement here as well.
- Each meeting has a focus-ex. SC Ready scores meeting
